The restaurant pizzeria “La Cantina” was born out of the historic premises which many years previously had been the coal house of the old steam railway that passed through the Chianti hills linking Greve to Florence. As well as being the town station it was also a tavern that offered refreshments to visitors and was an important meeting place for the citizens of Greve, from the beginning of the last century up until the 1940’s. After the war the railway was dismantled but the bar remained until June 1980 when our family opened “La Cantina” which has evolved from a local bar to a pizzeria wine bar.
We pay particular attention to our own dishes from the typical Tuscan antipasti, various kinds of first courses, salads and pizzas, all with carefully selected ingredients, accompanied by an excellent glass of Chianti and topped off with a home made dessert.The menu is almost entirely gluten-free, as is the pasta of our pizza, which you can also find with wholemeal flour.
You are welcome to drop in for a simple Greve-style snack and we also accept group bookings for lunches or dinners for weddings, birthdays or work groups. Alessandro and his young, friendly staff will welcome you and help you choose your food and wines and recommend the dish of the day, prepared by mamma Lorena who, with over 20 years experience, coordinates the preparations in the kitchen.
